Announcement bar section
The Announcement bar section of Local shows short messages above the header, with autoplay, social icons and language and country selectors.
Applies to: Local 4.2.1 and later. Added in: Local 1.0.0. Last checked: 2026-10-13 against Local 4.2.1.
The Announcement bar is the thin bar above the header for short messages, such as free delivery or a sale. It can hold several messages that customers browse with arrows, and it also shows your social icons and the language and country selectors on desktop.
Where to find it: Header group → Announcement bar
Content blocks
Each message is a Content block. Add one with Add block → Content.
- Text is the message.
- Link makes the message a link, for example to a sale collection. Open link in a new window opens it in a new tab.
With two or more Content blocks, the bar shows one message at a time, with arrows on both sides.
Functionality
- Visibility chooses where the bar shows: All pages, Homepage only, Product pages only, or All pages except the homepage.
- Autoplay moves to the next message on its own. Autoplay interval sets the time per message, from 3 to 20 seconds. Autoplay works only with two or more messages.
Language selector
- Show language selector shows a language dropdown in the bar, when your store has more than one language.
Country/region selector
- Show country/region selector shows a country and currency dropdown, when your store sells to more than one country. Its look is set in Currency format theme settings.
Social icons
- Show social icons shows the icons of the profiles you entered in Social theme settings.
On phones, the social icons and the selectors are hidden in the bar. The mobile navigation drawer shows them instead, see Header section.
Colors
- Background color and Text color set the colors of the bar. They are separate from the header colors.
Can I show the announcement bar in the footer?
Yes. The Announcement bar section can be added to the Header group and to the Footer group. In the theme editor, select Add section in the Footer group and choose Announcement bar. It cannot be added inside a page template.
Can I show different messages on different pages?
Partly. Add one Announcement bar section per message set and give each a Visibility: for example one set to Homepage only and one to Product pages only. Local does not show a bar on chosen collections or products only.
