What Borders does not do
The limits of Borders in one place: what the theme does not support, and what to use instead, from free shipping per market to payment icons.
Applies to: Borders 3.1.0 and later. Added in: Borders 1.0.0. Last checked: 2026-10-13 against Borders 3.1.0.
This page lists what Borders 3.1.0 does not support, with what to do instead. Each limit links to the page that explains the feature. For changes that need code, see Custom work and code changes.
Limits
Header and menus
- Borders does not support promotion blocks in menu items without sub-items, in the navigation drawer or on mobile. Promotions show only in the dropdowns of the classic desktop menu. See Header section.
- Borders does not show the country and language selectors in the header on screens narrower than 1024 px. Turn them on in the Navigation drawer section.
- Borders does not show Header group sections on one collection or one page only. Visibility knows the home page and product pages. Add a section to that page's template instead. See Header group.
Popups and overlays
- Borders does not remember popups per customer account. The frequency is stored in each browser, so a customer on a new device sees the popup again. See Overlay group.
- Borders does not show a closed popup again when you change its text. Add a new Text popover block for a new campaign.
- Borders does not show the exit intent popup on phones and tablets: it reacts to the mouse. Use the Newsletter popup or a Text popover there. See Exit intent popup section.
- Borders does not check a customer's real age. The Age verification section is a self-declaration with one button. Use an age verification app if the law requires more. See Age verification section.
- Borders does not add a sign-up form to the exit intent popup. Use the Newsletter popup for sign-ups.
Products and collections
- Borders does not show color swatches on product cards in grids. Swatches show on the product page, in Featured product and in the quick buy card. See Color swatches theme settings.
- Borders does not send back in stock emails automatically. The Back in stock alert block emails you, and you notify the customer. See Product page.
- Borders does not apply a discount from the Coupon code block. The block shows the code; customers enter it at checkout or in the cart.
- Borders does not show different promo cards per collection in one template. Use a separate collection template for each promotion. See Collection page.
- Borders does not let you choose the collections of the Collection navigation section: it shows the previous and the next collection. Use the Collection list section instead.
- Borders does not show more than 8 products in the Shop the look section.
Cart
- Borders does not support different free shipping thresholds per market. The free shipping bar has one amount, in your store's default currency, converted with the exchange rate. See Cart theme settings.
- Borders does not support styling the additional checkout buttons (Shop Pay, PayPal and others). Shopify makes them, and they disappear after any cart change until the page reloads.
Design
- Borders does not support custom font files with a setting. Choose a font from Shopify's library in Typography theme settings, or add your own with code (see Custom CSS and code).
- Borders does not let the primary border be wider than the secondary border. A wider primary border is shown at the secondary width. See Borders theme settings.
- Borders does not let drawers and modals use borders wider than 1 px.
Things Shopify controls
These are Shopify features, not Borders settings. Change them in Shopify admin:
- Checkout, payments and the payment methods shown in the footer icons: Shopify admin → Settings → Checkout and Settings → Payments.
- Markets, currencies and languages behind the selectors: Settings → Markets and Settings → Languages.
- Customer accounts, and whether the new or classic account pages are used: Settings → Customer accounts.
- Cookie consent and tracking: Settings → Customer privacy.
- Search results, filters and product recommendations: the Shopify Search & Discovery app.
- Shipping rates and the free shipping rate itself: Settings → Shipping and delivery.
- Product disclosures, gift cards and URL redirects.
