What Split does not do
What Split does not do: the limits of the theme, such as block counts, custom fonts and badges, with what to do instead.
Applies to: Split 5.1.0 and later. Added in: Split 1.0.0. Last checked: 2026-10-13 against Split 5.1.0.
Check here whether Split can do something before you search the settings. Each entry states one limit of Split 5.1.0, what to do instead, and the page that explains it.
Limits of sections
Most sections limit how many blocks you can add. When the Add block button disappears, the section is full: add a second section of the same type below it.
| Section | Maximum |
|---|---|
| Slideshow | 8 slides |
| Testimonials | 7 testimonials |
| Image with hotspots | 10 hotspots, products and texts together |
| Contact Form | 8 blocks |
| Countdown banner | 5 blocks |
| Images with text | 4 images |
| Shop the look | 4 products |
| Text columns with icons | 3 columns |
| Image comparison | 2 images |
| Footer | 4 blocks |
- Split does not play the Slideshow automatically. Customers move through the slides by scrolling on desktop and by swiping on phones. See Slideshow section.
- Split does not hide the Countdown banner when the countdown ends. The clock stops at zero: hide or remove the section after the end date. See Countdown banner section.
- Split does not adjust the Countdown banner for daylight saving time. Timezone is a fixed GMT offset: change it when your clocks change. See Countdown banner section.
- Split does not set countdown end dates after 2029. End year goes from 2020 to 2029. See Countdown banner section.
- Split does not connect the Star rating block to a review app. It shows the rating you type. Use your review app's own block or the product rating settings for real reviews. See Star rating block.
- Split does not support theme blocks such as Heading, Text and Button outside the Flex cards and Flex grid sections. Other sections have their own blocks. See Theme blocks.
- Split does not show a card's image as a fallback when a video is set in a Flex cards or Flex grid card. The card shows either the image or the video. See Flex card.
- Split does not show the content of a Shopify page in the Rich text section. Use the Regular page template, or copy the text into a Text block. See Rich text section.
Limits of the header and menus
- Split does not have settings to move the logo or the menu in the header. The logo sits on the left and the icons on the right. Moving them needs custom code. See Header section.
- Split does not support more than one level of submenus in the collections menu. See Header menus.
- Split does not show dropdown items in footer menus. Only the top-level links of the menu appear. See Footer group.
- Split does not rotate announcements automatically. With two or more, customers move through them with the arrows. See Announcement bar section.
Limits of products, cart and checkout
- Split does not show more product badges than Sold out, Sale, Pre Order and New. Pre Order and New come from product tags. More badges need custom code. See Product card theme settings.
- Split does not email customers when a product is back in stock. The Back in stock alert block sends the request to your store email, and you notify the customer yourself. Use a back in stock app for automatic emails. See Product page.
- Split does not create a free shipping rate. The free shipping notice in the cart is a message: set the rate itself in Shopify admin → Settings → Shipping and delivery. See Cart theme settings.
- Split does not block the additional checkout buttons with the terms and conditions checkbox. Only the Checkout button waits for the box. Turn off Show additional checkout buttons if customers must accept your terms. See Cart theme settings.
Limits that need custom code
- Split does not support uploading a custom font with theme settings. Fonts come from Shopify's font library, and the menu uses the body font. A custom font needs custom code. See Typography theme settings and Custom CSS and code.
- Split does not have a theme setting for extra badges, header layouts or other new features. These need custom code, which Krown support does not provide. See Custom work and code changes.
Who controls the things that are not in the theme?
Shopify controls checkout, payments, shipping rates, discounts, markets and currencies, languages, customer accounts, search results, filters and product recommendations. Split shows what Shopify provides, and each topic page links to the matching Shopify setting. See Shopify basics for Split stores.
