Header section
The Header section sets the Split logo, the main menu style (classic or drawer), the sticky header, language and country selectors and the account menu.
Applies to: Split 5.1.0 and later. Added in: Split 1.0.0. Last checked: 2026-10-13 against Split 5.1.0.
The Header section is the bar with your logo, the main menu and the store icons, at the top of every page. It sets the logo size, how the menu opens on desktop and whether the header follows the customer down the page.
Where to find it: Header group → Header
What the header shows
The layout of the header is fixed:
- On screens wider than 1024 px, the logo sits on the left. On the right, in this order: the classic menu (Classic style only), the search icon, the account icon, the cart icon and the menu icon (Drawer style only).
- On phones and tablets, up to 1024 px wide, the menu is always in the menu drawer: the header shows the logo, the search, account and cart icons and the menu icon.
- The account icon shows only when customer accounts are turned on in Shopify admin → Settings → Customer accounts.
- The search icon opens the search drawer; on the search page it links to the search page instead. The cart icon opens the cart drawer or goes to the cart page, depending on Theme settings → Cart → Cart type. See Drawers.
The header colors come from Theme settings → Colors → Header. See Colors theme settings.
Logo
- Logo image replaces the store name with your logo. Without an image, the header shows the store name as text.
- Logo image maximum height sets how tall the logo can be on desktop, from 20 to 140 px (default 40 px). Values under 40 px work as 40 px: the desktop logo is never shorter than that. Above 40 px, a logo is never shown taller than the image file itself.
- On screens 480 px and narrower, the logo is always 30 px tall, whatever this setting says.
Upload the logo at least twice as tall as Logo image maximum height, so it stays sharp on high-resolution screens.
Main menu and menu style
- Menu chooses the Shopify menu shown as the main navigation (default: Main menu). Create and edit menus in Shopify admin → Content → Menus. See Header menus for the collections menu that can sit before it.
- Desktop menu style sets how the menu looks on screens wider than 1024 px:
- Classic: the menu links sit in the header, next to the icons. Links with child links open a dropdown on hover.
- Drawer: the header shows only a menu icon. The icon opens the menu drawer, which slides in from the right side of the screen.
The main menu supports three levels: top links, their child links and one more level under each child link.
Sticky header and border
- Sticky header sets whether the header follows the customer down the page:
- Disabled: the header scrolls away with the page.
- Always: the header stays at the top of the screen.
- Only on scroll up (default): the header hides while the customer scrolls down and comes back as soon as they scroll up.
- Only the Header section sticks. The announcement bar and the breadcrumb scroll away.
- Hide border removes the thin line under the header. The opacity of that line is set in Theme settings → Colors → Header.
Language and country selectors
- Show language selector adds a language dropdown to the header menu.
- Show country/region selector adds a country dropdown, which also sets the currency.
- With the Classic style, the selectors sit at the end of the menu in the header. With the Drawer style, and on phones and tablets, they are in the menu drawer.
The selectors appear only when your store has more than one language or more than one country.
- Languages and markets are Shopify settings, not theme settings. Add them in Shopify admin → Settings → Languages and Shopify admin → Settings → Markets.
- The Footer section has its own selectors, which are on by default.
See Translate your store into multiple languages.
Customer accounts
Customer account menu chooses the menu shown in Shopify's account panel, which opens from the account icon (default: Customer account main menu). Since Split 5.0.0, the account icon uses Shopify's account component.
This menu works only with Shopify's new customer accounts. Turn them on in Shopify admin → Settings → Customer accounts. See Shopify's customer account component help page.
Can I center the logo or move the menu?
No, not with theme settings. Split always places the logo on the left and the menu and icons on the right, and the Header section has no setting to move them.
A developer can change the positions with CSS in the Header section's own Custom CSS box in the theme editor. Starting points are on Custom CSS and code. Krown support does not help with custom code.
Why does my header show the menu icon instead of the classic menu?
Because there is not enough room for the classic menu. Split replaces it with the menu icon when the links do not fit next to the logo and the icons. On screens up to 1024 px wide the menu is always in the menu drawer. The switch can also happen in the theme editor preview, which is narrower than a full browser window.
To make room, use the Drawer style, remove some top-level links, shorten their names or lower Logo image maximum height.
All Header settings
Every setting in this group, with its type and default.
Logo image (image): Replaces the store name with this image. Without an image, the header shows the store name as text.
Logo image maximum height (slider 20 to 140 px, step 2, default: 40 px): Sets the largest logo height on desktop. A logo is never shown taller than its image file. On screens 480 px and narrower the logo is always 30 px tall.
Menu (menu picker, default: the main-menu menu): The Shopify menu shown as the main navigation. It supports three levels of links.
Desktop menu style (dropdown): Sets the menu on screens wider than 1024 px: Classic shows the links in the header, Drawer shows only a menu icon that opens the menu drawer. Smaller screens always use the menu drawer, and Classic switches to the menu icon when the links do not fit. The setting has no default; the Header group installed with the theme uses Drawer. Options: Classic, Drawer.
Sticky header (dropdown, default: Only on scroll up): Sets whether the header stays at the top of the screen while the customer scrolls: never, always, or only while scrolling up. The announcement bar and the breadcrumb never stick. Options: Disabled, Always, Only on scroll up.
Hide border (checkbox, default: off): Removes the line under the header. Its opacity is set in Theme settings → Colors → Header.
Header section: Language selector
Where to find it: Header group → Header → Language selector
Show language selector (checkbox, default: off): Adds a language dropdown to the header menu, or to the menu drawer with the Drawer style and on phones. Shows only when the store has more than one language.
Header section: Country/region selector
Where to find it: Header group → Header → Country/region selector
Show country/region selector (checkbox, default: off): Adds a country dropdown, which also sets the currency, to the header menu or the menu drawer. Shows only when the store sells to more than one country.
Header section: Customer accounts
Where to find it: Header group → Header → Customer accounts
Customer account menu (menu picker, default: the customer-account-main-menu menu): The menu shown in Shopify's account panel, opened from the account icon. Only works with Shopify's new customer accounts; the account icon shows only when customer accounts are on.
