Footer group

The Footer group of Split holds the Footer section with text, menus, social links and payment icons, and the sections shown above it on every page.

Applies to: Split 5.1.0 and later. Added in: Split 1.0.0. Last checked: 2026-10-13 against Split 5.1.0.

The Footer group is the stack of sections at the bottom of every page. Its last section, Footer, holds your brand text, menus, social links, payment icons, the language and country selectors and the copyright line.

Where to find it: Footer group → Footer

A new Split install has three sections in the Footer group:

Most content sections can be added to the Footer group with Add section, so you can show, for example, an Instagram app or a Rich text above the footer on every page. The Footer section itself can only be used in the Footer group.

The top part of the footer is built from blocks, side by side in columns. The Footer section holds up to 4 blocks:

  • Text: a Heading, a Content text and a Text size (Regular or Large), for a short statement about your brand or your contact details.
  • Menu: a Heading and a Menu chosen from Shopify admin → Content → Menus.
  • Social links: a Heading and your social icons, each with the network name. The links come from Theme settings → Social. See Social theme settings.
  • Image: a Heading and Select image, for a trust badge or a certificate.

Heading tag under SEO sets the HTML tag of every block heading (default H4). It changes how search engines read the page structure, not how the headings look.

Payment icons

  • Show payment icons shows the icons of the payment methods your store accepts, from your payment settings in Shopify admin → Settings → Payments. Shopify decides which icons show for the customer's region and currency.
  • Under Custom icons, Icon 1 to Icon 6 add your own icons next to Shopify's, for example a local payment method. Upload 114 x 72 px PNG images. They are cropped from the center to a 38 x 24 shape and show 36 px wide.
  • Only show the custom icons hides Shopify's icons and keeps only yours (Split 4.3.0).

Custom icons show only when Show payment icons is on.

Language and country selectors

  • Show language selector and Show country/region selector add the dropdowns at the bottom of the footer. Both are on by default.
  • They appear only when your store has more than one language, or more than one country with its own currency. Add them in Shopify admin → Settings → Languages and Settings → Markets: these are Shopify settings, not theme settings. See Translate your store into multiple languages.

The Header section has its own selectors, off by default. See Header section.

Follow on Shop

Enable Follow on Shop (on by default) shows Shopify's Follow on Shop button, which lets customers follow your store in the Shop app. The button is drawn by Shopify and appears only when Shop Pay is turned on in Shopify admin → Settings → Payments. See Shopify's Follow on Shop help page.

Background and Text under Custom colors give the footer its own colors. Left transparent (the default), the footer uses the body colors from Theme settings → Colors.

Because the Menu block shows only the first level of a menu. The editor says so under Menu: "This menu won't show dropdown items". Child links in that menu are left out. Put the links you need at the first level, or split them across two Menu blocks.

You cannot: the Footer section holds at most 4 blocks. Combine two texts in one Text block, or add another section, such as Rich text, to the Footer group above the footer.

Every setting in this group, with its type and default.
