Custom work and code changes

Custom work and code changes in Split: what Krown support covers, what needs a developer, and what happens to code edits when you update.

Applies to: Split 5.1.0 and later. Added in: Split 1.0.0. Last checked: 2026-10-13 against Split 5.1.0.

Use this page when the theme settings cannot make the change you want. It explains what Krown support helps with, what needs custom work, and what happens to your changes when you update Split.

What Krown support covers

Krown support helps you use Split as it ships on the Shopify Theme Store:

  • How to set up a feature with the theme settings, sections and blocks.
  • Theme bugs: something that does not work as these docs describe. Krown fixes confirmed bugs in a theme update.
  • Small visual tweaks, such as a color, a font size or a spacing value, with a few lines of CSS for a section's Custom CSS field in the theme editor.

Contact Krown support at contact.krownthemes.com.

What needs custom work

Krown support does not provide custom code work. This includes:

  • New features, sections or blocks that Split does not have, such as more product badges or a new header layout.
  • JavaScript or Liquid code, and edits to theme files.
  • Large layout changes, or a chain of small changes that adds up to a redesign.
  • Fixing code that an app, a developer or you added to the theme.
  • Logging in to your store to make changes.

When a request needs custom work, support says so and points you to the options on this page. What Split does not do lists the most common limits.

Can I get CSS for a small change?

Yes, for small visual changes. Krown support can give you a few lines of CSS to paste into the Custom CSS field of a section in the theme editor. Check first whether a setting already does it. See Custom CSS and code.

Can I add my own code without editing theme files?

Yes, in two places. The Custom HTML / Liquid section adds a full-width section of your own code to any page. The Custom Liquid block adds code inside a Flex cards card or a Flex grid Text card. Both are settings, so they stay when you update. Krown support does not help with the code you put in them.

Can I edit the theme files myself?

Yes, at your own risk. Shopify lets you edit the theme code in Shopify admin → Online Store → Themes → … → Edit code. Krown support does not help with code edits, and an edit can stop working after an update. Duplicate the theme before you edit it, and keep a copy of every change. See Edit the theme code.

What happens to my code when I update?

Your settings and content are kept; code edits to theme files are not carried over automatically.

  • A Theme Store update installs a fresh copy of Split with your settings. Make edits to theme files again in the new version.
  • Custom CSS fields, Custom HTML / Liquid sections and Custom Liquid blocks are settings, so they come with you.

See Update Split.

Where do I find a developer?

Hire a Shopify developer or agency. Krown recommends Vevol Media, a Europe-based agency that works on Shopify development and theme customization. You can also find developers in Shopify's Partner Directory. See Custom work.

How do I tell whether a problem comes from custom code or an app?

Compare with a fresh copy of Split. Check these in order:

Preview a fresh copy

Add the latest Split version from the Shopify Theme Store as a new theme and preview the same page. If the problem does not happen there, it comes from a code edit or an app in your theme.

Turn off apps one at a time

Turn off apps that add blocks, embeds or scripts, one at a time, and reload the page after each one.

Try another browser

Test in another browser and on another device.
