Search page

The Kingdom search page shows Shopify search results as product cards, with optional filters, sorting and results per page.

Applies to: Kingdom 6.2.0 and later. Added in: Kingdom 2.0.0. Last checked: 2026-10-13 against Kingdom 6.2.0.

The search page shows the results of a store search: matching products as product cards, then matching pages and blog articles as short text results. It can also show filters and sorting for the products.

Where to find it: in the theme editor, open the page selector at the top and choose Search, then select the Search results section.

Results

  • The page has a search field at the top. Customers reach it from the search drawer, with the "Search for" link at the top of the quick results or by pressing Enter.
  • Products show in a grid of product cards, four per row on wide screens, three on smaller screens and two on phones. The cards follow Product card theme settings. Products tagged featured keep the normal size here; Kingdom does not enlarge them on the search page.
  • Pages and blog articles show under "Pages and articles for", each with its title, the first 35 words and a "Keep reading" link.
  • Results per page sets how many results show before the page numbers, 12 to 248 (default 24).

Which products match a search, and in which order, is decided by Shopify, not by Kingdom. See Shopify's help on store search. The quick results in the search drawer have their own options: see Predictive search theme settings.

Filtering and sorting

Both are off by default on the search page.

  • Enable filtering shows Shopify's filters (price, availability, product type, color and others) above the results on desktop, and in a Filter drawer on phones.
  • Enable sorting adds a sort menu, such as price or relevance.
  • Image filter layout shows swatch and image filters in 1 or 2 columns (default 2).

The filters themselves are not theme settings. You create and order them in Shopify's Search & Discovery app → Filters; the search page shows the filters you set up there.

Create the filters

In Shopify admin, open the Search & Discovery app → Filters and add the filters you want, for example Availability, Price and Color.

Turn on filtering on the search page

In the theme editor, open Search, select the Search results section and turn on Enable filtering. Turn on Enable sorting too if you want the sort menu.

Save, search for a word in the storefront and check that the filters appear above the products.

Why do no filters appear on the search page?

Because Enable filtering is off, which is its default here, or no filters exist yet. Turn on Enable filtering in the Search results section and create filters in the Search & Discovery app. The collection page has its own Enable filtering, see Collection page.

Why does the search not find a product by its SKU?

Because Shopify's search results page decides which fields it searches. Kingdom's SKU, barcode and tag options apply only to the predictive search drawer. See Predictive search theme settings.
