Sidebar section

The Sidebar section is Kingdom's header: the logo, menus, search, account and cart icons in a sidebar on the left, and a top bar on mobile.

Applies to: Kingdom 6.2.0 and later. Added in: Kingdom 2.0.0. Last checked: 2026-10-13 against Kingdom 6.2.0.

The Sidebar section is Kingdom's header. Instead of a bar at the top of the page, Kingdom shows the logo, the menus, the language and country selectors, the search field and the account and cart icons in a fixed column on the left of every page. There is no Header section in Kingdom; look for Sidebar instead.

Where to find it: Online Store → Themes → Customize → Sidebar, at the top of the theme editor sidebar. It is the same on every page.

How the sidebar looks on desktop and mobile

  • On screens wider than 948 px, the sidebar is a column on the left. The logo is at the top, with the account and cart icons next to it. The menus follow, then the selectors and the search field.
  • On screens 948 px wide or less, the sidebar becomes a bar at the top of the page with the logo and four icons: search, account, cart and the menu icon. The menu icon opens the menus in a drawer.

The sidebar and every drawer that opens from it use Theme settings → Colors → Sidebar.

  • Logo image is the logo at the top of the sidebar. Without an image, Kingdom shows your store name as text.
  • Logo image width sets the width of the logo on desktop, from 50 to 250 px.
  • Logo mobile image replaces the logo on screens 948 px wide or less. Upload a smaller, wide version of your logo if needed; it shows at a maximum height of 40 px.
  • Primary navigation is the main menu, shown first, in larger text. Its text size is Theme settings → Typography → Primary navigation.
  • Secondary navigation is an optional second menu shown under it, for links such as About or Contact.

Both menus support three levels. The second and third levels open in panels next to the sidebar. See Sidebar menus for how to build them and how they behave on mobile.

Setting up customer accounts

When customer accounts are turned on in Shopify, the sidebar shows an account icon next to the cart icon. It opens Shopify's account window, where customers sign in and reach their orders and profile.

Turn on customer accounts

In Shopify admin, open Settings → Customer accounts and turn on accounts. Kingdom shows the account icon only when they are on.

Edit the account menu

In Shopify admin, open Content → Menus and edit the customer account menu. Its links show in the account window.

Select the menu

In the theme editor, select Sidebar and choose that menu in Customer account menu. The default is customer-account-main-menu.

Customer account menu only works with Shopify's new customer account component. See Customer accounts in the Shopify Help Center.

Language and country selectors

  • Show language selector adds a language dropdown under the menus. It appears only when your store has more than one published language: add languages in Shopify admin → Settings → Languages.
  • Show country/region selector adds a country dropdown, which also changes the currency. It appears only when your store sells to more than one country: add them in Shopify admin → Settings → Markets.

The Footer section has its own language and country selectors, so you can show them in one place or both.

Show search adds the search field to the sidebar on desktop and the search icon to the top bar on mobile. Typing shows predictive results in the search drawer. Turn it off to remove search from the sidebar completely; the search page still works at /search.

Cart drawer and search drawer

The cart drawer and the search drawer are part of the Sidebar section, not separate sections. They slide out of the sidebar and have no settings in this section:

Can I move the sidebar to the top of the page?

No. Kingdom does not support a top header on desktop: the sidebar on the left is the layout of the theme. On screens 948 px wide or less the sidebar already becomes a bar at the top. A top header on desktop would need custom work, see Custom work and code changes.

Kingdom 6.1.0 replaced the Login and My Account text links with the account icon, which uses Shopify's customer account component. The icon shows when customer accounts are on in Shopify admin → Settings → Customer accounts. See the steps above.

Why does my logo look small on mobile?

Because the top bar on mobile is only 66 px high, so the logo is limited to 40 px in height, and Logo image width does not apply there. A tall or square logo becomes small. Upload a wide, short version of your logo in Logo mobile image.
