Cart theme settings
The Cart theme settings choose a cart drawer or cart page in Kingdom and set notes, discount codes, a terms checkbox and checkout buttons.
Applies to: Kingdom 6.2.0 and later. Added in: Kingdom 2.0.0. Last checked: 2026-10-13 against Kingdom 6.2.0.
The Cart theme settings choose how customers see their cart, a drawer or a page, and what the cart offers: notes, discount codes, a terms checkbox and express checkout buttons.
Where to find it: Theme settings → Cart
Cart type
- Cart type chooses what happens when a customer adds a product or selects the cart icon:
- Drawer (default): the cart opens in a drawer that slides out of the sidebar, and the customer stays on the page.
- Page: the customer goes to the cart page.
- Drawer cart action buttons chooses the buttons at the bottom of the drawer: View cart, Checkout, or both.
- Stick action buttons at the bottom of the cart drawer keeps the total and the buttons visible at the bottom of the drawer while the customer scrolls a long cart.
- Show additional checkout buttons shows Shopify's express checkout buttons, such as Shop Pay, PayPal or Apple Pay, under the Checkout button.
The additional checkout buttons can't be edited, they are created on the fly by Shopify based on your available payment methods and the current customer's profile. Also, they will disappear after any change to the cart (adding more items, removing an item or changing the quantity).
Notes and discounts
- Enable cart notes adds a text field for special instructions, such as a delivery note. The note is saved with the order.
- Enable cart discounts adds a field where customers type a discount code and select Apply. Shopify checks the code; an invalid code shows "Discount code cannot be applied to your cart". Applied codes are listed under the field with a button to remove them.
- Discount text is a short line under the discount field, for example "Only one code per order".
- Make notes & discount fields collapsible inside cart drawer folds both fields into toggles in the drawer, so the cart items have more room. The cart page always shows them open.
Setting up the terms and conditions checkbox
The checkbox makes customers confirm your terms before they can select Checkout, in the cart drawer and on the cart page.
Turn on the checkbox
Open Theme settings → Cart and turn on Enable terms and conditions requirement for checkout.
Write the label
Edit Checkbox label. Select the text and add a link to your terms page, for example Shopify admin → Settings → Policies → Terms of service.
Test the cart
Save, add a product to the cart and open it. The Checkout button stays disabled until the box is checked.
The checkbox only locks Kingdom's own Checkout button. The express checkout buttons in the cart and the dynamic checkout buttons on the product page still go straight to checkout. If the terms must be accepted on every order, turn off Show additional checkout buttons here and Show dynamic checkout buttons in the Buy buttons block of the product page.
Media aspect ratio
Aspect ratio sets the shape of the small product images in the cart drawer, the cart page, the search drawer and other places with small thumbnails: Square (1:1), Tall (5:6) (default) or Taller (2:3). Images are cropped to that shape. The product grids use their own ratio from Product card theme settings.
Why do the express checkout buttons disappear after I change the cart?
Because Shopify creates these buttons when the cart first loads. When a customer changes a quantity or removes an item in the cart drawer, Kingdom refreshes the cart, and the buttons are not created again until the next page load. The regular Checkout button always stays.
Why are there no express checkout buttons in my cart?
Check two settings. Show additional checkout buttons must be on, and Drawer cart action buttons must include the checkout button: with "Show "view cart" button" alone, the express buttons do not show in the drawer or on the cart page. Shopify also shows only the payment methods you have turned on in Shopify admin → Settings → Payments.
