Popup section
The Popup section shows a newsletter or announcement popup in Kingdom after a delay, once a day, a week, or only once per visitor.
Applies to: Kingdom 6.2.0 and later. Added in: Kingdom 2.0.0. Last checked: 2026-10-13 against Kingdom 6.2.0.
The Popup section shows a window over the page 5 to 60 seconds after a customer arrives, with a heading, a text, an optional image and an optional email signup form. Use it for a newsletter signup or a short announcement.
Where to find it: Online Store → Themes → Customize → Popup, in the theme editor sidebar after the Footer group. It belongs to every page: you cannot add a second popup or place it on one page only.
Popup content
- Heading is the large title of the popup.
- Content is the text under it, with basic formatting and links.
- Show email sign up form adds an email field. Customers who sign up are added to Shopify admin → Customers with the tag
newsletterand email marketing consent. See Connect Mailchimp to send those emails with Mailchimp. - Image shows a wide image at the top of the popup, on desktop only. Use an image of 1240 x 400 px; other sizes are cropped to that shape from the center.
Setting up when the popup appears
Open the Popup section
In the theme editor, select Popup in the sidebar, after the Footer group.
Turn it on
Under Functionality, turn on Enable popup. The popup is off by default.
Set the timing
Set Show popup after to the delay in seconds, from 5 to 60. Choose how often a customer sees it again in Popup frequency.
Add the content
Fill in Heading and Content, add an Image if you want one, and keep Show email sign up form on for a newsletter popup.
Test it in a private window
Save and open your store in a private browser window. Wait for the delay. After you close the popup, it stays closed in that browser for the chosen period.
Popup frequency counts from the moment the customer closes the popup:
- Show each day: again after 1 day.
- Show each week (default): again after 7 days.
- Show each month: in Kingdom 6.2.0 this option behaves as "show once". The popup comes back only when you change its text.
Kingdom remembers the closed popup in the customer's browser. When you change the heading or the text of the popup, every customer sees it again, even within the frequency period. A customer on another device or browser also sees it again.
Why does my popup not show again?
Because you already closed it in this browser, and the Popup frequency period has not passed yet. With Show each month, the popup does not come back at all until its text changes. To test the popup again, open the store in a private window or clear the site data in your browser.
Why do I see the popup every time in the theme editor?
Because Kingdom does not remember a closed popup inside the theme editor, so you can always preview it. Customers on your live store see it only as often as Popup frequency allows.
Why does the popup keep showing after a customer signs up?
Because the frequency starts only when the popup is closed. A customer who signs up and leaves without closing the popup sees it again on the next page. The thank-you message also changes the popup text, which counts as new content.
