SEO and performance theme settings

The SEO & performance theme settings of Combine control microdata, product breadcrumbs, drawer scrollbars, image animations and link preloading.

Applies to: Combine 4.2.0 and later. Added in: Combine 1.0.0. Last checked: 2026-10-13 against Combine 4.2.0.

The SEO & performance theme settings control the structured data Combine adds for search engines, the links in product breadcrumbs, two accessibility options and link preloading.

Where to find it: Theme settings → SEO & performance

SEO

  • Disable microdata schema removes the structured data (schema.org) that Combine adds to every page: the organization, the website, the breadcrumb trail, and the product or article data from Shopify. Leave it off unless an SEO app adds its own.
  • Improve product breadcrumb navigation makes product cards in a collection link to the product inside that collection. The product page breadcrumb then shows the collection ("Home / Collection / Product"). Search engines still get the main product URL as the canonical address.

Accessibility

  • Show drawers scrollbar (on desktop) shows a scrollbar in the cart, search and menu drawers. By default Combine hides it.
  • Disable all image animations turns off the fade-in and zoom effects on images, for customers who are sensitive to motion or for a calmer store.

Performance

  • Preload links on hover starts loading a page as soon as the customer points at its link, so the page opens faster when they click.

In Combine 4.2.0, turning off Preload links on hover stops preloading on the cart page only. Every other page keeps preloading links.

Should I disable the microdata schema?

Only when an SEO app adds the same structured data. Two sets of product data on one page can confuse search engines, so turn on Disable microdata schema when the app tells you to. Without such an app, keep it off.
