Product recommendations section
The Product recommendations section of Combine shows related products under the product page, from Shopify recommendations, with product grid blocks.
Applies to: Combine 4.2.0 and later. Added in: Combine 1.0.0. Last checked: 2026-10-13 against Combine 4.2.0.
The Product recommendations section shows up to 8 products related to the product the customer is viewing, as a slider or a grid. It sits under the Product page section in the product template.
Where to find it: Online Store → Themes → Customize → template picker → Products → Default product → Product recommendations.
Where the recommendations come from
Shopify chooses the products, not Combine. Shopify's related products are based on sales data and product descriptions; you can set your own related products per product in Shopify's Search & Discovery app. When Shopify has no recommendations for a product, the section shows nothing on that product page. Layout
- Layout shows the products as a Slider (default) or a Grid. The slider turns off the thumbnail gallery of product cards, when it is on in Theme settings.
- Desktop layout sets 3, 4 or 5 columns. Mobile layout sets 1 or 2 columns.
- Display less items on mobile (on by default) shows only the first 2 products on small phones.
The section heading, Section design colors and gutter settings are the standard ones, described on General section styling. Here the heading color is called Heading text color.
Blocks
The blocks set what each product card shows, in their order. The template starts with Price, Title and Product link. They work like the blocks of every product grid in Combine: see Product grid blocks.
Price, Title and Vendor
- Price shows the price, with the compare-at price when the product is on sale. Title links to the product page. Vendor shows the vendor.
Description
- Shows the start of the description. Number of words sets the length (5 to 40). Show link to product page adds a "View product details" link.
Rating
- Shows the star rating from your reviews app, chosen in Theme settings → Product card → Product rating.
Icons list
- Shows up to three icons with labels from the metafields set in Theme settings → Product card → Dynamic icons list. See Dynamic icons list.
Dynamic text
- Shows one product metafield, typed in Label metafield as
namespace.key(defaultcustom.product_text). Text color is Primary or Secondary; Text transform (uppercase) writes it in capitals.
Quick buy
- Adds a buy button to each card. Options display type Inline shows the variant options in the card; Modal (on click) opens the Quick view window.
- Don't show quick buy if product is out of stock hides the button on sold out products. Show price inside "add to cart" button adds the price to the button.
- Inline only: Select the first available variant by default and Handle unavailable variants (Disable, Hide, Show).
Product link
- Adds an outline button to the product page, with its Button label (default "View product").
Why does the Product recommendations section not show on some products?
Because Shopify returned no related products for them. This happens with new stores, products with little sales data, or products alone in their type. Set related products by hand in the Search & Discovery app to fill the section.
Can I choose the recommended products myself?
Yes, in Shopify's Search & Discovery app, per product (related products). Combine shows what Shopify returns. To show a fixed list of products you pick on every product page, use the Products list block of the Product page section instead. See Product page.

Product recommendations section: Section heading
Where to find it: Products → Default product → Product recommendations → Section heading
The Product recommendations section uses the standard Section heading settings, listed in General section styling. Not available in this section: Button label and Button link.
Heading (text field, default: "Recommended").
Subheading (formatted text, default: "You may also like these products").
Heading size (dropdown, default: Regular). Options: Regular, Large.
Text alignment (dropdown, default: One row: Left). Options: One row: Left, Two rows: Left, Two rows: Center.

Product recommendations section: Layout
Where to find it: Products → Default product → Product recommendations → Layout
Desktop layout (dropdown, default: 4 columns): Sets the number of product columns on desktop. Options: 3 columns, 4 columns, 5 columns.
Mobile layout (dropdown, default: 2 columns): Sets the number of product columns on mobile. Options: 1 column, 2 columns.
Layout (dropdown, default: Slider): Shows the recommended products as a slider or a grid. The slider turns off the thumbnail gallery of product cards. Options: Slider, Grid.
Display less items on mobile (checkbox, default: on): Shows only the first 2 recommended products on small phones.

Background color (color, default: transparent).
Background gradient (gradient).
Heading text color (color, default: transparent): Sets the color of the section heading and subheading. Transparent keeps the body text color.

The Product recommendations section uses the standard Gutter settings, listed in General section styling.
Decrease top margin (checkbox, default: off).
Remove bottom margin (checkbox, default: off).
Price block
Where to find it: Products → Default product → Product recommendations → Add block → Price
One Price block per section.
The Price block has no settings in Combine 4.2.0.
Title block
Where to find it: Products → Default product → Product recommendations → Add block → Title
One Title block per section.
The Title block has no settings in Combine 4.2.0.
Description block
Where to find it: Products → Default product → Product recommendations → Add block → Description

Number of words (slider 5 to 40, default: 15): Sets how many words of the product description the Description block shows, without formatting.
Show link to product page (checkbox, default: on): Adds a "View product details" link to the product page under the description.
Vendor block
Where to find it: Products → Default product → Product recommendations → Add block → Vendor
One Vendor block per section.
The Vendor block has no settings in Combine 4.2.0.
Rating block
Where to find it: Products → Default product → Product recommendations → Add block → Rating

Icons list block

Dynamic text block
Where to find it: Products → Default product → Product recommendations → Add block → Dynamic text
One Dynamic text block per section.
Label metafield (text field, default: "custom.product_text"): The product metafield the Dynamic text block shows, typed as namespace.key (for example custom.product_text). Products without a value show nothing.
Text color (dropdown, default: Secondary): Sets the Dynamic text color: Primary uses the text color, Secondary a lighter shade. Options: Primary, Secondary.
Text transform (uppercase) (checkbox, default: off): Writes the Dynamic text in capitals.
Quick buy block
Where to find it: Products → Default product → Product recommendations → Add block → Quick buy
One Quick buy block per section.
Options display type (dropdown, default: Inline (in the product grid)): Sets how quick buy works: Inline shows the variant options in the product card, Modal opens the quick view window when the button is selected. Options: Inline (in the product grid), Modal (on click).

Select the first available variant by default (checkbox, default: off): Selects the first available variant in the card. When off, customers choose a variant before the button works. Shown only when Options display type is Inline (in the product grid).
Handle unavailable variants (dropdown, default: Hide): Sets what sold out variants do in the card: Disable greys them out, Hide removes them, Show keeps them selectable. Options: Disable, Hide, Show. Shown only when Options display type is Inline (in the product grid).
Product link block
Where to find it: Products → Default product → Product recommendations → Add block → Product link
One Product link block per section.
Button label (text field, default: "View product"): Sets the text of the Product link button, which opens the product page.
