Troubleshoot the cart

Troubleshoot the Seventh cart: cart drawer not opening, free shipping bar amount, gift wrapping, terms checkbox and recommendations.

Applies to: Seventh 4.0.0 and later. Added in: Seventh 1.0.0. Last checked: 2026-10-12 against Seventh 4.0.0.

Use this page when the cart drawer, the cart page, the free shipping bar, gift wrapping or the checkout button misbehave. Each question lists causes and fixes in the order to check them.

Where to find the settings: Theme settings → Cart, Drawers group → Cart drawer, and Cart → Cart grid.

Why does the cart page open instead of the cart drawer?

Because Cart type is set to Page. Set Theme settings → Cart → Cart type to Drawer (the default). See Cart theme settings.

Why does my cart app not work in the cart drawer?

Because some cart apps need JavaScript that starts only on a full page load, and the cart drawer updates without reloading. Set Theme settings → Cart → Cart type to Page. If the app offers an app block, add an Apps section to the cart page: the Cart grid section takes no app blocks. See Cart theme settings and Apps section.

Why is the free shipping bar not showing?

Because Show free shipping minimum amount is off, or Free shipping minimum amount contains more than a number. In Theme settings → Cart → Shipping, turn the setting on and type the amount as digits only, for example 50. See Cart theme settings.

Why does the free shipping bar show the wrong amount in another currency?

Because Seventh converts the amount from your store's default currency with Shopify's exchange rate. Enter Free shipping minimum amount in the default currency. See Cart theme settings.

Can I set a different free shipping threshold per market?

No. Seventh does not support different free shipping thresholds per market. Use a third-party shipping app, or see Custom work and code changes.

Does the free shipping bar give customers free shipping?

No. The bar only shows a message. Shopify controls shipping rates, not Seventh. Create the free shipping rate in Shopify admin → Settings → Shipping and delivery, with the same minimum amount as the bar. See Cart theme settings.

Why can't customers remove the gift wrapping from the cart?

Because the gift wrapping item has no quantity selector and no remove button. Customers add and remove it only with the gift wrapping checkbox. See Cart theme settings.

Why can customers check out without ticking the terms checkbox?

Because the check runs only in the cart. A customer who opens the /checkout address directly reaches checkout, and Shopify controls checkout, not Seventh. See Cart theme settings.

Why does my discount code not apply in the cart?

Because the code is a shipping discount, which applies only at checkout, or Shopify does not accept it for this cart. Shopify controls discounts, not Seventh. Check the code in Shopify admin → Discounts. See Cart theme settings and Shopify's guide Discounts.

Why does the shipping calculator show no rates?

Because Shopify has no shipping rate for the address the customer entered. Check the shipping zones and rates in Shopify admin → Settings → Shipping and delivery. See Cart theme settings.

Why do the accelerated checkout buttons disappear in the cart?

Because Shopify's accelerated checkout buttons, for example Shop Pay, load only with the page. After any cart change they disappear until the page reloads. Turn off Theme settings → Cart → Show additional checkout buttons if this is a problem. See Cart theme settings.

Why are the product images in the cart cropped?

Because the cart crops images to Theme settings → Cart → Media aspect ratio → Aspect ratio (default: Tall (5:6)). Turn on Fit media inside container to show the whole image. See Cart theme settings.

Where do I find the cart notes of an order?

In Shopify admin → Orders, on the order page. Theme settings → Cart → Enable cart notes (on by default) shows the note field, and Shopify saves the note with the order. See Cart theme settings.
