Troubleshoot popovers and modals
Troubleshoot Seventh popovers and modals: why a popup does not show, shows too often, or why two cookie banners appear.
Applies to: Seventh 4.0.0 and later. Added in: Seventh 1.0.0. Last checked: 2026-10-12 against Seventh 4.0.0.
Use this page when a popover (Popovers section) or a modal (Modals section) does not show, shows too often or looks wrong. Each question lists causes and fixes in the order to check them.
Where to find the settings: select the block inside Overlay group → Popovers or Overlay group → Modals in the theme editor.
Why is my popover or modal not showing?
Because a visibility or trigger setting stops it on the page you are testing, or your browser already closed it. Check these settings on the block, then test in a private window:
- Visibility, Show on selected collections and Show on selected products.
- Show popup after and Enable scroll based trigger.
- Popup frequency.
See Popovers section and Modals section.
Why does my popover show only once, or not again?
Because Seventh stores the Popup frequency in the customer's browser (local storage). After a customer closes it:
- Show each day shows it again after 24 hours.
- Show each week (the default) shows it again after 7 days.
- Show each month never shows it again in that browser (Seventh 4.0.0).
See Popovers section.
Local storage is per browser and per device. A customer on a new device, in another browser or in a private window sees the popover again. To test it yourself, use a private window or clear the site data of your store in the browser.
Why do customers see my popover again after I edited it?
Because Seventh shows a popover or modal again when its text changes, even inside the Popup frequency period. Edit the text only when you want returning customers to see it once more. See Popovers section.
Why does my popover appear too often?
Because Popup frequency is set to a short period, or because customers use several devices or private windows. Set Popup frequency to Show each week or Show each month. Seventh does not support limiting a popover per customer account: the limit is always per browser. See Popovers section.
Why are some popovers cut off or missing when I have several?
Because popovers that open at the same time stack in one corner of the screen, and a tall stack does not fit. Show fewer popovers on the same page with Visibility, or give each one a different Show popup after delay. See Popovers section.
Why does the popover layout look wrong?
Because of the Card style settings of that block. Check Text alignment, Inner blocks spacing, Padding, Add padding to media elements, Corner radius and Color scheme in the block's Card style. See Popovers section.
Why does the Exit intent popup never open?
Because exit intent needs a mouse, so the Exit intent popup does not open on phones and tablets. In the theme editor, select its block to see it. See Modals section.
How do I see a popover while I edit it?
Select its block in the theme editor sidebar. The popover or modal opens in the preview. The delay, the scroll trigger and the frequency apply only on the storefront. See Overlay group.
Why do I see two cookie banners?
Because Shopify's own cookie banner is on at the same time as the Cookie consent popover. Shopify controls its banner, not Seventh. Turn it off in Shopify admin → Settings → Customer privacy. See Popovers section.
Why does the Cookie consent popover not show again after I accepted?
Because Seventh remembers the accept or decline choice in the browser and sends it to Shopify's customer privacy settings. Test it again in a private window. See Popovers section.
Is the age verification modal a legal age check?
No. Seventh does not support a real age check. The Age verification modal only asks the customer to confirm, and remembers the answer in the browser for 28 days. For a legal age verification, use a dedicated age verification app. See Modals section.
Still not working?
If none of these fixes work, contact Krown support. Include your store URL or a preview link, the page where it happens, the device and browser, and a screenshot.
