Custom work and code changes
Custom work and code changes for Local: what Krown support does and does not do, and where to find help for custom code.
Applies to: Local 4.2.1 and later. Added in: Local 1.0.0. Last checked: 2026-10-13 against Local 4.2.1.
Use this page when the theme settings cannot make the change you want. It explains what Krown support helps with, what needs custom work, and how to keep changes when you update Local.
What Krown support helps with
Krown support helps you use Local as it ships on the Shopify Theme Store:
- How to set up a feature with the theme settings, sections and blocks, for example the store selector, the events calendar or metaobject swatches.
- Theme bugs: something that does not work as these docs describe. Krown fixes confirmed bugs in a theme update.
- Small visual tweaks, such as a color, a font size or a spacing value, with a few lines of CSS for Theme settings → Custom CSS. Some are ready on Code tweaks.
Contact Krown support at contact.krownthemes.com.
Does Krown support make code changes for me?
No. Krown support does not provide custom code work. This includes:
- New features, sections or blocks that Local does not have, for example more than 3 custom badges.
- JavaScript or Liquid code, and edits to theme files, such as the old "hide purchase buttons" tweak.
- Large layout changes, or a chain of changes that adds up to a redesign.
- Fixing code that an app, a developer or you added to the theme.
- Logging in to your store to make changes.
When a request needs custom work, support says so and points you to the options below.
Who can build a custom feature for my store?
A Shopify developer or agency. Krown recommends Vevol Media, a Europe-based agency that specializes in Shopify development and theme customization. See the Shopify Basics guide Custom work. You can also find developers through Shopify's own partner directory.
Can I edit the theme files myself?
Yes, at your own risk. Shopify lets you edit the theme code in Shopify admin → Online Store → Themes → … → Edit code. Krown support does not help with code edits, and edits can stop working or block an update. Duplicate the theme before you edit it, and keep a copy of every change. See Custom CSS and code and the Shopify Basics guide Edit the theme code.
Are my customizations kept when I update Local?
Settings are. Custom CSS fields and Custom HTML / Liquid sections and blocks are settings, so Shopify carries them over to the new version. Edits to theme files are not: a new version replaces the files, so you redo the edits on the new theme. See Update Local.
How do I tell whether a problem comes from custom code or an app?
Test the same page in a fresh copy of Local.
Preview a fresh copy of Local
Add the latest Local version from the Shopify Theme Store as a new theme and preview the page. If the problem does not happen there, it comes from a code edit or an app in your theme.
Turn off apps one at a time
Turn off apps that add blocks, embeds or scripts, one at a time, and reload the page after each one.
Compare with the demo store
Open the Local demo store from the Shopify Theme Store and compare the same page.
Test another browser and device
Open the page in another browser and on another device.
See the Shopify Basics guide Troubleshoot store issues: first steps.
Who fixes a problem caused by an app?
The app developer. Krown support can confirm that a problem does not happen without the app, but it cannot change app code. Contact the app's support with a link to the page where it happens.
