Blank card

The Blank card is the basic Card block in Seventh: an empty card with its own style and media where you add any blocks.

Applies to: Seventh 4.0.0 and later. Added in: Seventh 1.0.0. Last checked: 2026-10-12 against Seventh 4.0.0.

The Blank card is the empty version of the Card block: a card with no content that you fill with your own blocks, with an optional link and background media. A card is a block that holds other blocks. In the theme editor the block is called Card, and "Card blank" is its first preset.

Where to find it: select Add block inside a Custom grid or Multicolumn section, then choose Card blank (or another Card preset listed below).

What it does

The card shows:

  • your own blocks for the content;
  • an optional link on the whole card;
  • an optional background image or video;
  • layout and spacing controls.

Most cards in Seventh are presets of this card, so you can build almost any design from it.

Card presets

The Card block has 7 presets in Add block. They are the same block with different starting settings and blocks, so every preset has the settings listed on this page.

  • Card blank: an empty card.
  • Image card: an Image block, with no card background.
  • Promo card: a Caption, a Heading and a Button over a media background, centered.
  • Promo card: overlay (centered): an Image block with a Content group (Heading and Button) on top of it.
  • Promo card: overlay (bottom): a Heading at the bottom of a card with a media background and a minimum height.
  • Testimonial card: a Star rating, a Heading for the quote and a Testimonial author block. See Testimonial card.
  • Shoppable media card: a Product item block at the bottom of a card with a media background.

The "Promo card" preset is not the Promo card block for product and collection grids. The preset has no Custom placement in the grid setting.

Where you can add it

  • Custom grid section and its presets, for example Promotions and Testimonials.
  • Multicolumn section.
  • Grid blank section on the password page.
  • Promotions cards in the Navigation drawer section.
  • Mega menu in the Header section.

Inside the card you can add a Content group, any theme block and app blocks.

Card style and height

The Card style settings set the card's alignment, spacing, padding, corners and color scheme. Minimum height keeps the card at least that tall, however little content it holds.

Making the whole card clickable

  • Set Link in Card → Card link. The whole card becomes a link, and it takes priority over the links of the blocks inside the card.
  • Open link in a new window and Link text appear once a link is set.

Background media

  • Turn on Show media background (available while Remove card background is off), then set a Background image, a Background video or both.
  • The video autoplays muted and in a loop, and it replaces the image when both are set. Autoplay does not work on phones in low power mode.
  • Media overlay adds a color or a gradient over the media.

Why can't I set the card height?

The section's Cards alignment is set to Stretch, or the card is inside a mega menu. With Stretch, every card takes the height of the row, so Minimum height and Vertical alignment are hidden. In a mega menu, the card height settings are not available.
