SEO and performance theme settings
The SEO and performance theme settings of Split control the microdata schema, collection names in product breadcrumbs, drawer scrollbars and link preloading.
Applies to: Split 5.1.0 and later. Added in: Split 1.0.0. Last checked: 2026-10-13 against Split 5.1.0.
These settings change what Split adds to your pages for search engines and how fast pages feel. The group is called SEO & performance in the theme editor.

Microdata schema
- Split adds schema.org structured data to every page: your organization and website, a breadcrumb trail, and the product or article data on product and article pages. Search engines use it for rich results.
- Disable microdata schema removes all of it. Turn it on only if an SEO app adds its own structured data, so search engines do not read the same data twice.
See SEO for your store for what Shopify and apps handle.
Product breadcrumb
- Improve product breadcrumb navigation (on by default) makes product cards link to the product inside its collection, for example
/collections/shirts/products/linen-shirt. - The Breadcrumb section can then show the collection in the product's trail: Home / Collections / Shirts / Linen shirt.
- It applies to product cards on the collection page and in the Featured collection and Collection slider sections. A product opened from search, the home page or a link outside a collection shows no collection in its trail.
- Every page carries a canonical link to the product's main address (
/products/linen-shirt), so the longer URL does not create duplicate pages for search engines.
See Breadcrumb section.
Accessibility
- Show drawers scrollbar (on desktop) shows a thin scrollbar inside the menu, cart, search and filter drawers when their content is taller than the screen. It is off by default: the drawers still scroll, without a visible bar.
Performance
- Preload links on hover (on by default) starts loading a page as soon as the customer points at its link, so the page opens faster when they click.
Should I turn off the microdata schema?
Only when an SEO app adds the same structured data. Two copies of the product data can confuse search engines and the rich results in Google. If you do not use such an app, leave Disable microdata schema off.
All SEO and performance settings
Every setting in this group, with its type and default.
Disable microdata schema (checkbox, default: off): Removes the schema.org structured data Split adds (organization, website, breadcrumb list, product and article data). Turn it on only when an SEO app adds its own.
Improve product breadcrumb navigation (checkbox, default: on): Makes product cards on the collection page, Featured collection and Collection slider link to the product inside its collection (/collections/<collection>/products/<product>), so the breadcrumb can show the collection. The canonical link still points to the product's main URL.
