Troubleshoot the sidebar and menus
Fixes for Kingdom sidebar problems: missing submenus, parent links on mobile, the logo size, the account icon and the search drawer.
Applies to: Kingdom 6.2.0 and later. Added in: Kingdom 2.0.0. Last checked: 2026-10-13 against Kingdom 6.2.0.
Answers to common problems with Kingdom's sidebar: the menus, the logo, the account icon and search. The sidebar is Kingdom's header; its settings are in the Sidebar section.

Where is the header in Kingdom?
Kingdom has no Header section: the Sidebar section is its header. Select Sidebar at the top of the theme editor's left panel to change the logo, the menus, the account menu, the selectors and search. On phones the sidebar becomes a bar at the top of the page.
Why do my submenus not open?
Because the links are not nested in the menu. A submenu exists only when its links are children of another link in Shopify admin → Content → Menus. Drag each child link under its parent and save. Kingdom shows up to three levels; links nested deeper do not appear. See Sidebar menus.
Why can customers not open a parent menu link on mobile?
Because on phones a tap on a link with a submenu opens the submenu instead. The same happens with the first tap on touch screens such as tablets. Add the parent page again as the first link of its own submenu, for example "All shirts" under "Shirts", so customers can still reach it.
Why is the account icon missing?
Because customer accounts are turned off in Shopify. Kingdom shows the account icon only when accounts are on in Shopify admin → Settings → Customer accounts. Since Kingdom 6.1.0 there are no Login or My Account text links in the sidebar; the icon opens Shopify's account window with the menu chosen in Customer account menu.
Why does the search icon not show?
Because Show search is off in the Sidebar section. Turn it on to show the search field in the sidebar on desktop and the search icon in the top bar on phones. Typing then shows predictive results in the search drawer; see Predictive search theme settings.
Why does my logo look small on mobile?
Because the top bar on phones shows the logo at a maximum height of 40 px, and Logo image width does not apply there. Upload a wide, short version of your logo in Logo mobile image.
Why does the language or country selector not show?
Because your store has only one published language or sells to only one country. Show language selector and Show country/region selector show a dropdown only when there is something to choose. Add languages in Shopify admin → Settings → Languages and countries in Shopify admin → Settings → Markets.
Can I move the sidebar to the top of the page?
No. Kingdom does not support a top header on desktop; the sidebar on the left is the theme's layout. On screens 948 px wide or less the sidebar already becomes a top bar. A desktop top header would be custom work, see Custom work and code changes.
