Troubleshoot product and collection pages

Applies to: Highlight 4.1.0 and later. Added in: Highlight 1.0.0. Last checked: 2026-10-13 against Highlight 4.1.0.

Use this page when product cards, the product page or a collection page do not look or behave as expected. Each answer lists what to check, in order.

Why does my color swatch image not show?Copy Anchor Link

Because Highlight cannot find a file with the exact name it expects, or the value already has a Shopify swatch. Check these in order:

1. The file is in Shopify admin → Content → Files.
2. Its name is the option value in lower case with hyphens, plus .png: "Dark Grey" needs dark-grey.png. A .jpg file or a name with capitals or spaces is not found.
3. The value has no Shopify swatch from a category metafield; a Shopify swatch is used first.
4. A few minutes have passed since the upload; the images are cached.

Why are my colors shown as text instead of swatches?Copy Anchor Link

Because the option name is not in Color swatches labels and its values have no Shopify swatch, or swatches are off. Check these:

• Product cards: Theme settings → Product card → Show color swatches is on.
• Product page: the Variant picker block's Show color swatches is on, and Variants selector type is Blocks. Dropdown shows no swatches.
• The option name, in lower case, is in Color swatches labels, for example shade.

Why does a swatch show an empty circle?Copy Anchor Link

Because the value is not a color name that browsers know, and there is no Shopify swatch or image file for it. Values like "Red" or "Navy" work as color names; values like "Sand" or "Forest" do not. Upload a swatch image named after the value, or set Shopify swatches with category metafields.

Why does my unique product badge not show?Copy Anchor Link

Check these in order:

1. The product metafields are named exactly unique_feature.icon (type File) and unique_feature.title (type Single line text). Another namespace, such as custom, is ignored.
2. The product has a value in at least one of them.
3. You are on a Collection page, a Featured collection section or search results. Highlight does not show the badges in the Products slider, Product recommendations or the product popup.
4. The product is available. Sold-out products show the Sold out badge instead.

Why does the second image not show on hover?Copy Anchor Link

Check these in order:

1. Theme settings → Product card → Show second product media on hover is on. It is off by default and in the Single and Brush presets.
2. The product has at least two images.
3. You are on a computer with a mouse. The hover image does not show on phones and tablets, where the first tap opens the product page.

Why are there no filters on my collection page?Copy Anchor Link

Because filters are not set up, or filtering is off. Install the Shopify Search & Discovery app and add filters there, then check that Enable filtering is on in the Collection page section. On the search page, filtering is off by default: turn on Enable filtering in the Search results section. See Collection page.

Why does the promotional block show only on the first page?Copy Anchor Link

Because Highlight shows the promotional block only on page 1 of a paginated collection. The next pages show products only. Raise Products per page if you want more products around the block. The block also needs at least 5 products in the Asymmetrical layout, or 4 in the Regular grid, on that page.

Why does the back in stock form not show on my product?Copy Anchor Link

Because the selected variant is not sold out. The Back in stock alert block shows only when the variant tracks inventory, has none left and does not continue selling when out of stock. In the theme editor the form always shows, so you can style it. See Product page.

Why does a collapsible tab show on products that have no content for it?Copy Anchor Link

Because Hide block if dynamic content is not present is off. Turn it on in the Collapsible tab block, so the tab hides when its Tab content, page and image are all empty.
