Troubleshoot the cart

Fix common Highlight cart problems: missing express checkout buttons, the free shipping bar amount and the terms checkbox.

Applies to: Highlight 4.1.0 and later. Added in: Highlight 1.0.0. Last checked: 2026-10-13 against Highlight 4.1.0.

Use this page when the cart drawer or the cart page does not behave as expected. The settings named here are in Theme settings → Cart unless the answer says otherwise.

Why can't I edit the additional checkout buttons?

Because Shopify creates them, not Highlight. Shopify builds the express checkout buttons, such as Shop Pay, PayPal or Apple Pay, from your payment methods and the customer's device and browser. The theme can only show or hide them with Show additional checkout buttons. To make their shape match your store, see Fix accelerated checkout buttons design.

Why do the express checkout buttons disappear after I change the cart?

Because Highlight redraws the cart totals after each change, and Shopify's buttons must load again inside them. After a change to the cart, such as adding an item, removing one or changing a quantity, they can be missing until the page is reloaded. In the cart drawer they also show only when Drawer cart action buttons includes the checkout button. If they stay missing after a reload, contact Krown support with a link to your store.

Why does the free shipping bar show the wrong amount in another currency?

Because Highlight converts Free shipping minimum amount from your store's default currency with Shopify's exchange rate, and rounds it. Your shipping rate in another market may use a different, fixed amount. Highlight does not support a different free shipping amount per market: the bar uses one amount for everyone. If your markets have different free shipping amounts, turn the bar off.

Why does the free shipping bar not show?

Check these in order:

  1. Show free shipping minimum amount is on.
  2. The cart has at least one item. The bar is hidden in an empty cart.
  3. Free shipping minimum amount is a plain number, such as 50. A currency symbol or letters break the bar.

Why can customers not click Checkout?

Because Enable terms and conditions requirement for checkout is on and the customer has not selected the checkbox. The Checkout button stays greyed out until they select it. Make the Checkbox label clear, for example "I agree to the terms and conditions", with a link to your policy.

Why is there no Checkout button in the cart drawer?

Because Drawer cart action buttons is set to Show "view cart" button. The drawer then shows only the button that opens the cart page. Set it to Show both, or to Show "checkout" button.

Why does the cart drawer not open when I add a product?

Because Cart type is set to Page, which takes customers to the cart page instead. Set it to Drawer. On the cart page itself the drawer never opens; the page updates instead.
