Footer group
The Footer group of Borders: the Footer section with text, menu, image, payment, social and selector blocks, and the Copyright bar.
Applies to: Borders 3.1.0 and later. Added in: Borders 1.0.0. Last checked: 2026-10-13 against Borders 3.1.0.
The Footer group is the bottom part of your store. It appears on every page and holds the information customers look for everywhere: contact details, menus, payment methods and social links.
Where to find it: Online Store → Themes → Customize, the Footer group at the bottom of the theme editor sidebar.
Footer section
The Footer group starts with two sections: the Footer and the Copyright bar. You can add almost any other section to the group with Add section, for example an Email signup section above the Footer.
The Footer section arranges its blocks in columns:
- Desktop layout sets 3 or 4 columns. On smaller screens the columns stack.
- Title style: Text font (Body or Headings) and Text size style the headings of all blocks.
- Color scheme sets the colors. Hide section bottom border removes the line under the footer. Hide borders removes the lines between the blocks.
- Heading tag (SEO) sets the HTML tag of the block headings, H2 by default.
Footer blocks
The Footer holds up to 8 blocks. Each block has a Heading shown above it.
Text
- Content is a short text, for example your contact information. Title size sets the size of the heading (Regular, Large).
- Do not use headings (H1 to H6) inside Content. They break the design, and the block already has a heading.
Menu
- Menu shows the top-level links of a Shopify menu; dropdown items are not shown.
- Open link in a new window opens all its links in a new tab.
Image
- Image shows a store image, a product or a trust badge, with an optional Media shape.
- Link makes the image a link, with Open link in a new window.
Payment icons
Social links
- Shows links to the profiles set in Social theme settings.
- Hide icons shows the names of the networks without their icons.
- Enable Follow on Shop adds Shopify's Follow on Shop button, so customers can follow your store in the Shop app. It needs Shop Pay turned on in your payment settings.
Language & country selector
- Show language selector and Show country/region selector add the selectors. They appear only when the store has more than one language (Shopify admin → Settings → Languages) or more than one country or region (Settings → Markets).
How payment icons work
- The icons come from your store's payment settings (Shopify admin → Settings → Payments) and the customer's region and currency. They update by themselves when you add or remove a payment method.
- Under Custom icons, Icon 1 to Icon 6 add your own icons, for example for a payment provider that has no icon. They show at 38 x 24 px.
- Only show the custom icons hides the automatic icons and shows only yours.
Payment icons show the payment methods that are enabled in your store and available to the customer. If you use a payment provider that has no icon, upload its icon in Icon 1 to Icon 6; no custom code is needed.
Copyright bar
The Copyright bar shows "Copyright © year" with your store name, and the "Powered by Shopify" link. The year updates automatically. Its only setting is Color scheme. The same bar also shows at the bottom of the password page.
The texts are theme texts. Change "Copyright" in Shopify admin → Online Store → Themes → … → Edit default theme content.
If you want to remove the "powered by shopify" link you can add a CSS rule inside the Theme settings → Custom CSS area. The code is on Custom CSS and code.
Why do my payment icons not show?
The Payment icons block shows only the methods enabled in Shopify admin → Settings → Payments that apply to the customer's country and currency. Methods without a Shopify icon, and manual payment methods, show no icon. Upload your own icons in Icon 1 to Icon 6 of the block.
How do I remove the Powered by Shopify link?
With a CSS rule. Borders has no setting to remove the link. Copy the rule from Custom CSS and code into Theme settings → Custom CSS; it hides the link everywhere the Copyright bar shows.
