Footer group

The Footer group holds Highlight's Footer section and the Text columns with icons section: menus, newsletter, social links, payment icons and selectors.

Applies to: Highlight 4.1.0 and later. Added in: Highlight 1.0.0. Last checked: 2026-10-13 against Highlight 4.1.0.

The Footer group is the bottom of every page. It holds two sections: Text columns with icons (shipping, delivery and returns notes by default) and the Footer section with your menus, newsletter form, social links, selectors and payment icons.

Where to find it: select Footer in the Footer group of the theme editor sidebar. The Footer group is the same on every page.

  • Text columns with icons: up to three short texts with icons, above the footer. It has its own page: Text columns with icons section.
  • Footer: up to 4 blocks (Text, Menus, Email signup, Social links, Image), shown two per row on desktop and one under the other on phones.
  • Under the blocks, the Footer shows the language and country selectors, the payment icons and the Follow on Shop button, then the copyright line with your store name.

You can add other sections to the Footer group with Add section inside the group, for example an Announcement bar or an Email signup section.

Payment icons

  • Show payment icons shows the icons of the payment methods your store accepts.
  • Shopify decides which icons show, from your payment settings in Shopify admin → Settings → Payments and from the customer's region and currency.

Custom icons

  • Icon 1 to Icon 6 add your own icons next to Shopify's, for example a local payment method or a "Cash on delivery" logo. Each icon is shown at 38 x 24 px and cropped to that shape.
  • Only show the custom icons hides Shopify's icons, so the footer shows only yours.

Custom icons were added in Highlight 3.3.0. They show only when Show payment icons is on.

Showing your own payment icons

Prepare the icons

Make each icon as an image in a 38 x 24 shape, for example 76 x 48 px for sharp screens, with its alt text set in Shopify admin → Content → Files.

Select the Footer section, keep Show payment icons on, and upload the images in Icon 1 to Icon 6.

Choose whether to keep Shopify's icons

Turn on Only show the custom icons to show only your images. Leave it off to show your images after Shopify's own icons.

Language and country selectors

Show language selector and Show country/region selector are on by default. Each one shows only when your store has more than one published language, or more than one country or region in Shopify admin → Settings → Markets.

Follow on Shop

Enable Follow on Shop shows Shopify's Follow on Shop button, which lets customers follow your store in the Shop app. Shopify shows the button only when Shop Pay is turned on for your store. Highlight has had it since 3.1.0.

Custom colors

  • Background color and Text color give the Footer section its own colors. They also color the fields, dropdowns and icons in the footer.
  • Both are transparent by default, so the footer uses the store colors from Colors theme settings. With a background color, the footer gets some extra space at the top.

Blocks

Text

  • Heading and Content: a title and a short rich text, for example your contact details or a statement about your brand.
  • First menu heading and First menu, Second menu heading and Second menu: one or two menus side by side, each with its own heading.
  • The menus show only their top-level links; dropdown items are not shown.

Email signup

  • Heading and Caption: a newsletter form with a title and a short text under it, for example a link to your privacy policy.
  • Subscribers are saved as customers with email marketing consent in Shopify admin → Customers.
  • The Footer can hold one Email signup block.
  • Heading: a title above the icons of the profiles in Social theme settings.
  • The Footer can hold one Social links block.

Image

  • Heading and Select image: a title and an image, for example a logo, a badge or a map.

Because the Menus block shows only the top-level links of each menu. Child links are not shown in the footer. Create a separate, flat menu for the footer in Shopify admin → Content → Menus, or use both menus of the block.

The icons of the payment methods that Shopify reports for your store and for the customer's region and currency. Highlight does not choose them. To show other icons, upload them as custom icons and, if needed, turn on Only show the custom icons.

The copyright line is part of the Footer section and has no setting in the theme editor. "Powered by Shopify" is a link that Shopify provides. See Remove the Powered by Shopify credit.
