Text card
The Text card of the Flex grid section in Split holds theme blocks over an optional image or video and spans the grid columns and rows you set.
Applies to: Split 5.1.0 and later. Added in: Split 5.0.0. Last checked: 2026-10-13 against Split 5.1.0.
The Text card is a card of the Flex grid section that holds theme blocks, over an optional image or video, and spans the columns and rows you set. With a link, the whole card is clickable.
Where to find it: select a Text card inside a Flex grid section, or select Add block under the section and choose Text card.
Media, link and text position
- Image fills the card behind the blocks, cropped to the card shape. A Text card without an image shows only its background color, with no placeholder.
- Video file plays a muted video in a loop behind the blocks instead of the image. With a video set, the image is not shown, also when the video cannot play (the editor note says otherwise).
- Link makes the whole card clickable. Open link in a new window shows once a link is set.
- Text alignment places the blocks in one of nine positions, from Left top to Right bottom (default: Left bottom).
- Text container width: Medium limits the blocks to 60 percent of the card width, Large to 90 percent, on screens 640 px and wider.
If entire card has a link, the inner links will not work.
Layout
- Desktop columns (2 to 12, default 4) and Desktop rows (1 to 4, default 1) set how much of the 12-column grid the card covers on screens 768 px and wider.
- Mobile columns sets 1 column (half the screen width) or 2 columns (the full width) on phones.
- Mobile rows sets 1 or 2 rows on phones.
- Hide on mobile hides the card on phones and on tablets held upright.
When the blocks need more space than the row height, the card grows, and all rows of the grid grow with it. See Flex grid section.
Blocks inside the card
A Text card accepts every theme block (Heading, Text, Button, Caption, Image, Divider, Empty space, Star rating, Content group, Custom Liquid) and app blocks. A new Text card comes with a Caption and a Heading. The space around and between the blocks comes from the section's Text padding and Text spacing.
Every block has its own page under Theme blocks.
Custom colors
- Background color paints the card. Over an image or video it also lays a see-through layer of that color (36 percent opacity), which makes light text easier to read.
- Text color sets the color of the blocks' text, the solid and outline buttons, and the card's border lines.
- Leave both transparent (the default) to use the body colors from Colors theme settings. The Media collage preset uses a black background with white text.
Why does my button in the Text card not work?
Because the card itself has a Link. The card link covers the whole card, so links inside it cannot be clicked. Remove the card Link to use the Button link, or remove the Button and keep the card link.
How do I make the text easier to read over the image?
Set a Background color on the card. Over media it adds a 36 percent layer of that color behind the text. Then set a Text color that contrasts with it, for example a dark background with white text.
